Designed by three Professors of Communications and built by the experienced programmers at Isoprime Corporation, CommuniCoach™ joins multi-media PC power to the critique of video-recorded performances by linking instructor feedback to specific segments in the performance. A learner may then view his performance and the evaluator's comments right on his own computer. No more fast forwarding or rewinding through a videotape while comparing separate notes on different parts of a presentation. No more wondering where in a performance a comment or suggestion applies. No more writer's cramp for teachers. And no more storing videotapes. CommuniCoach makes the whole process efficient, effective, interactive, and enjoyable.
CommuniCoach® Features
CommuniCoach program speeds up and adds newfound precision to the process of evaluating video recordings. Features of CommuniCoach include:
- Split Screen Evaluation -- The instructor watches the performance on one half of a computer screen, while composing or selecting responses in a window on the other half. The instructor can isolate specific portions of a recorded performance and respond to each portion individually. This lets students view the video segment and the instructor's comments side by side. The performance and the evaluation are intertwined.
- Evaluation Options -- Instructors can choose from three different types of evaluations.
- A segment evaluation can be used to divide the video into segments and provide feedback on each specific segment.
- A checklist evaluation can be used to check-off whether certain points have been observed in the video, comment on the checklist items, and even point to certain segments of the video.
- A text evaluation can be used to compare a text script to what is seen in the video and even mark errors or observations within the script.
- Instructor/Student Interaction -– Instructors and students can comment on the same video within the same evaluation. Instructor and student comments are uniquely identified so that a student can add their own comments, respond to requests by the instructor, or even perform a self-evaluation that is later reviewed by the instructor.
- Student-specific and Shared Videos -- Evaluations can be done for videos of specific students. Also, an instructor can use a single shared video and have students do an evaluation of that shared video as a learning or testing exercise.
- Standard Comments -- The instructor may choose from a database of their own commonly used feedback phrases or suggestions for improvement. This speeds up the standard evaluation process immensely.
- Tailored Comments -- Instructors can compose and add text to standard comments to better focus on specific words, phrases, or actions within a performance... and tailored comments can be added to the database for use in future evaluations.
- Video Icons / Time Codes -- Students can "jump" to specific sections within a performance by clicking on a camera icon within the evaluation text. No more fast forwarding or rewinding a videotape to locate and compare different parts of a performance.
- Grade Book and Assignment Tracking – Instructors are provided with a variety of database and record keeping functions.
- Network Storage and Sharing -- Video and evaluation database files can be kept and accessed by other computers connected to a LAN or the Internet. This provides instant instructor and learner access to performance data with no cost for recording media such as tapes or CD's.
